Metering Cartridge Of Downhole Select Tester Valve DST Tools
Function of the metering cartridge in select tester valve
The metering cartridge is the key part of the select tester valve which is applied for the downhole testing service. The metering cartridge provides the area that the operating pressure acts over to open the valve. The metering cartridge has two parallel flow paths through it, Each path only allows fluid to move in a single direction. The first flow path contains a check valve. This path allows oil unrestricted flow into the upper oil chamber from lower oil chamber. The second path contains a pressure relief valve and a time-delay valve. This path only allows fluid to move into the lower oil chamber from upper oil chamber slowly when the pressure relief valve open.
The metering cartridge used in the Select Tester Valve is different from the one used in the LPR-N. The metering rate for this cartridge can be varied by changing the type of plugs installed in the OD of the metering cartridge housing. This feature will allow the tool to operate over a wider range of bottom hole conditions without disassembling the tool and changing the metering cartridge. The standard metering cartridge operating pressure range is 2 ksi to 14 ksi hydrostatic pressure.
